Family Ski Trip at Garmisch (Vacation Marathon Part 3) and Chloe's 12th Birthday

To round off the February Vacation marathon, Jill packed up the kids and headed down to Garmisch. It was also a great way to celebrate Chloe's 12th Birthday.  On the way they took the scenic detour to Neuschwanstein for a lovely family photo.

Instead, they hiked to the top for a bunch of turkey photos.

I guess Jill gave up, but then turned around and tried again with a little more success.

I was able to meet up Tuesday night in Garmisch.  The hotel randomly gave us the same cabin we had on our last trip here.  It was a special surprise for our family that everyone enjoyed.

Getting excited for SKIING!

Almost there!

We Made it!  Family Mountain Skiing!

Chloe: Mountain Skiing is the best!

Ike: Mountain Crashes are the best!

Rex: mountain snowflakes are the best to eat!

Ike insisted on using the lower face hole.
Then he couldn't stop laughing when I showed him he was in the Girls face.

After a icy and poor snow year, we go a nice snowfall just in time for our second day of skiing.

We love Jill so much we let her ski with us,
even though she actually snowboarded with us.

Ike had almost no fear.

Chloe couldn't stop eating the snow flakes.

Snow siblings.

Family shelter from the storm.

Chloe's snow man guarded our cabin all night long.
Unfortunately he didn't have much endurance for daytime labor.

Love Snow Birds

After skiing we had Chloe's birthday party.
Jill made Chloe a cheese cake for a cheesy 12 year old.

Chloe is a girl with lots of enthusiasm.
She regularly brings excitement to whatever she does.

Post Skiing present opening.

On the third day, the skiing wimps "took the day off" while
Chloe and I got one more day on!

Keep going Chloe, I'll catch up.

She did really well and was super brave when we ended up on some steep-super icy runs.
We had lots of fun.

All the kids can snow plow with control and now I have to figure out how turning with parallel skis. Hopefully next year will bring more snow than this one.

Jill's Garmisch bucket list always includes Partnach Gorge
It's a pretty amazing hike and the kids always remember they enjoys it, once we get there

Look who's legs aren't tired anymore.

Chloe, Don't Lick the Ice!

Basically it's a 1/2 mile hike through this slot canyon with a walkway carved out of the rock.
How Amazing!

This place makes Jill super happy.

Rex thought it was okay.

Look at those muscles

and if our kids can do one thing...
they can dab

...and dab some more...

...and still have energy to dab again.

If I'm not mistaken, I think I see another dab coming out.

Absolutely, that's a dab.

After the celebration on top, we got to hike back.

I would like to take a moment to mention how much I love this girl. Jill not only supported, but encouraged me during my vacation marathon directly after spending 3 week on business trips.  Jill packed up all the kids, planned meals for our kitchen-less cabin, meals that accommodated Ike's gluten-dairy-corn-and-everything-else free diet, and drove across the country to meet me.  She cares deeply about our kids and their success.  She's has pretty amazing ideas and is super fun to be around. Here's to another great trip

And like all good things, this trip came to an end.  Unfortunately, we hit traffic on the way home and the end didn't come as quickly as we'd hoped.  But DJ Chloe found us some good beats to pass the time.
